		<description>“Barbara - a Tale of Transformation”
The design fiction graphic novel.
Text by Garðar Eyjólfsson

Illustrations and layout by Janousch Bela Kratz @janoschkratz.eu

Edited by Marteinn Sindri Jónsson.

“Barbara” is a near future design fiction based on an eponymous short story by Garðar Eyjólfsson. It recounts snippets of the first few decades of Barbara’s life and certain transformations she undergoes. The project is intended as a collaborative venue for various designers and artists to reflect on the intertwining possibilities between humans, technology, culture and the environment.
Fragmented translations and manifestations from the “Barbara” research will pop up here and there in the (un)foreseeable future exploring various platforms, formats and media.

<description>From the Iceland Design &#38;amp; Architecture Center website:
“For this year’s edition of DesignMarch, the&#38;nbsp; team is experimenting with a concept called STUDIO 2020. During the festival the studio will be a platform for varied forms of interviews, LIVE talk shows, performative design interventions, thematic conversations and podcasts. This material will be distributed through our channels during and after the festival and should give exciting insights into the Icelandic design scene and the current local conversation .

This is the right time to be experimental with new ways of communicating a design festival, content beyond and below appearances alone.

The creators and curators of the Studio 2020 are Hlín Helga Guðlaugsdóttir, curator of DesignTalks, Garðar Eyjólfsson, programme Director of MA Design at Iceland University of Arts and María Kristín Jónsdóttir, editor in chief of HA magazine.

Make sure to follow DesignMarch at @designmarch on Instagram for an insight to the Icelandic design scene and inspirational conversations about design and architecture.”

		<description>(icelandic only)

16. september 2017 er alþjóðlegur hreinsunardagur strandlengjuna eða International coastal clean-up day.

<description>Conducted a workshop that explored energy industries in Halle, Germany locally through the lens of multiple narratives. We sought out and documented narratives of the anthropocene, we visited industries that utilise capital as means to produce energy and economic growth and explored and discussed the ecological consequences that often follow. In contrast we also sought out and documented narratives that offer solutions and counter arguments to the one of the anthropocene. These narratives can often be found in the form of new systems or interventions in established industrial systems that propose that we utilize or exploit nature in a more harmonious way. Creating processes where humans and nature co-create or where the human is more mindful of how the resources are transformed, used and recycled. These narratives often use a prefix like eco-, bio- etc...&#38;nbsp; one could argue that there has been a certain trend towards this narrative in the field of design lately.

Through field trips, lectures, movie screening, discussions and dialog we questioned both forms of narratives and explored their problematics through a critical lens, going through notions of dystopia, utopia – dualistic thinking processes. Is there perhaps a need to render and manifest alternative narratives? To project hybrid realities? To create platforms to explore other types of living?

We used documentation tools in the workshop as a means to explore these narratives. photographs, film, harvesting materials, collecting artefacts, creating models, maps, data and text with the aim to create a publication (map) and an exhibition about our explorations of the week, manifesting our perceptions and discussions.

<description>A celebrational totem of everyday objects, stool, plate, jug and a lamp. Made out of aluminum, produced in smelters in Iceland utilizing the hydroelectric powers of rivers in the islands highlands.

The work is a thought experiment on the seemingly strangle hierarchical division between objects in our homes, ornament and function. We have objects that we show proudly in homes, still there are other more mundane, everyday objects that we keep hidden away in cupboards and drawers. The work is a celebration of the everyday, linking together the functional with the decorative. Once assembled a collection of mundane objects becomes a decorative totem of the everyday.

Utilising the only company using Icelandic aluminium for their production. The objects are labour intensive, hand crafted objects. Sand casted in Málmsteypan Hella Iceland. (Metal Casting Workshop).
