Conducted a workshop that explored energy industries in Halle, Germany locally through the lens of multiple narratives. We sought out and documented narratives of the anthropocene, we visited industries that utilise capital as means to produce energy and economic growth and explored and discussed the ecological consequences that often follow. In contrast we also sought out and documented narratives that offer solutions and counter arguments to the one of the anthropocene. These narratives can often be found in the form of new systems or interventions in established industrial systems that propose that we utilize or exploit nature in a more harmonious way. Creating processes where humans and nature co-create or where the human is more mindful of how the resources are transformed, used and recycled. These narratives often use a prefix like eco-, bio- etc...  one could argue that there has been a certain trend towards this narrative in the field of design lately.

Through field trips, lectures, movie screening, discussions and dialog we questioned both forms of narratives and explored their problematics through a critical lens, going through notions of dystopia, utopia – dualistic thinking processes. Is there perhaps a need to render and manifest alternative narratives? To project hybrid realities? To create platforms to explore other types of living?

We used documentation tools in the workshop as a means to explore these narratives. photographs, film, harvesting materials, collecting artefacts, creating models, maps, data and text with the aim to create a publication (map) and an exhibition about our explorations of the week, manifesting our perceptions and discussions.
